Galileo Legacy brings Museo Galileo to Fortnite. Developed by Dot Beyond together with the museum’s team, the first Fortnite island from an Italian museum transforms the collection into an adventure where players discover science through play.
Funded by the Italian Ministry of Culture under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the project gives digitised heritage a new purpose: 3D models of the instruments become part of an interactive experience shaped by players’ actions and choices.
Fortnite as a creative space

We chose Fortnite for the creative possibilities of its islands and the opportunity to engage young audiences in a familiar setting.
Creator islands allow us to build worlds with their own rules: on a platform best known for shooter games, we designed an edutainment space where curiosity and reasoning drive the gameplay.
The museum enters the world of players, adopting their language and involving them in discovering the collection: to progress, they must use the scientific instruments and understand how they work.
Knowledge becomes action
In Fortnite, visitors take an active role and objects become instruments to use again: players move through the rotating armillary sphere and use the nocturnal to tell the time by the stars.
Together with the Museo Galileo team, we turned the way these instruments work into puzzles, preserving their historical and scientific value.
Observing, testing and verifying allow players to overcome challenges, bringing Galileo’s message to life today: seek answers through experience and put your own interpretations to the test.

Gameplay
In Galileo Legacy, there are no weapons or opponents to eliminate: players succeed by reasoning. They explore four themed wings, dedicated to Astronomy, Experiments, Gravity and Time, collecting seals to unravel a mystery that threatens the truth.
Each area presents challenges linked to the collection’s instruments and scientific principles.
Curiosity encourages exploration, while understanding enables progress: this connection between discovery and action shapes the learning experience. The visual design gives each environment a distinct identity and guides players through their journey.
The island is at the heart of a project that brings together game design, visual identity, communications and education.
Alongside logo design and communications, we developed resources for teachers and a Player’s Guide conceived as a journal, combining gameplay tips with historical context.
These materials extend the experience into the classroom and encourage further exploration of the original instruments at Museo Galileo, sparking curiosity, knowledge and participation beyond the game.
