What we do

Machine Learning, Back-end development , App

“Reflecto 2.0” is a project that combines art, technology, and Machine Learning to transform a visit to the Museo and Church of San Fedele into a personal and engaging experience.

Developed by the Fondazione Culturale San Fedele in Milan, with the support of Fondazione Kainòn ETS, in collaboration with Dot Beyond, the start-up The Thinking Clouds, and under the supervision of Fr. Flavio E. Bottaro SJ, the project aims to create a visiting path that adapts to the emotional predispositions of each visitor, fostering a deeper connection with the exhibited artworks.

The Exhibition Spaces

The project, inaugurated during Milano BookCity 2024, takes place within the spaces of Museo San Fedele, inside the Church of San Fedele, and is organized into “contemplation rooms” such as the crypt, the small chapel, the sacristy, and the Dancer’s Chapel.

In the crypt, ancient artworks engage in dialogue with contemporary installations, and since 2020 it has housed the Nanda Vigo – Private Collection, featuring works by Piero Manzoni, Lucio Fontana, Gruppo Zero, and other major international artists.

The Reflecto App

Reflecto is the companion app designed to enrich visitors’ experiences while interacting with the artworks along the exhibition path.

The app operates on two fronts: upon access, it collects the user’s initial emotional profile through a welcome questionnaire; during the visit, it records the emotions triggered by interaction with the artworks. The app is supported by a back-end system that allows the Foundation to autonomously manage texts, multimedia content, and voice synthesis, adjustable via SSML tags.

It is available in Italian, English, French, and Spanish, with multilingual content management integrated into the back end.

Feddy: The Digital Companion

At the heart of the experience is Feddy, a digital companion that collects the visitor’s initial emotional profile and the emotions experienced during the visit. Based on this information, the app dynamically adapts content, fostering a more intimate and personal connection with the artworks. In this way, each visit becomes unique: not only a shared moment but also a tailored inner journey.

Personalized Content & Experience

Explanations for each artwork are composed from a dataset structured into four expressive registers:

  • Descriptive style, allowing visitors to focus on the technical and visual details of the artwork;

  • Emotional style, concentrating on the sensations elicited by the piece, helping visitors identify and name the emotions arising during observation;

-** Introspective style**, inviting deep reflection and posing existential questions that stimulate contemplation;

  • Social style, encouraging visitors to consider the artwork’s impact in relation to the collective context.

The content integrates strategies of Visual Thinking, mindfulness, and advanced narrative techniques, offering a unique and personalized experience.

At the end of the path, visitors can access a web portal to review key points from their visit, discover new activities, or continue their personal growth journey.

Art, Technology, and Inclusion United

With Reflecto 2.0, the Fondazione Culturale San Fedele reinforces its commitment to combining art, technology, and accessibility, offering a digital tool that enriches and makes the museum experience more inclusive.

The app development was carried out by The Thinking Clouds.
